AAAS: A Legacy of Solidarity Since 1890

Founded in 1890, the Armenian Association for Social Assistance (AAAS) is recognized as one of the oldest non-profit solidarity organizations of the Armenian diaspora in continuous operation worldwide. For over 135 years, AAAS has been supporting the most vulnerable.

Official Recognition and Independence

AAAS is a non-profit organization under the 1901 law, officially recognized as a public utility by the French Republic in 1956. This official designation acknowledges our significant contributions to French society and grants us a status that enhances our capacity to serve the public.

By principle and in practice, AAAS maintains complete independence from any religious institution or political party, allowing us to support our beneficiaries regardless of their personal beliefs.

A History Closely Tied to the Armenian Experience in France

Throughout its long history, AAAS has been an integral part of major events that have shaped the Armenian presence in France. From waves of refugees following the Armenian Genocide to the integration of Armenian immigrants into French society, AAAS has provided crucial support at every step.

EVOLUTION AND SUSTAINABILITY

Over the decades, AAAS has evolved its activities to comply with French and European standards. This commitment to the sustainability of our actions is reflected in:

  • The management of nursing homes (Établissements d'Hébergement pour Personnes Âgées Dépendantes) which are regulated by stringent standards. These medicalized facilities are designed for seniors who want to combine the friendliness of a living space with aging well. In a dedicated architectural environment, they aim to preserve safety, quality of life, autonomy maintenance, and well-being.
  • The implementation of policies that embody French Republican Values, ensuring equality of rights, secularism, democratic participation, and social cohesion.
  • Transparent governance that ensures accountability to our public. External and internal audits guarantee compliance with standards, the impact of our actions, and the proper use of funds to implement them.

Three Pillars Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals

Since its inception, AAAS has developed its activities around three main areas in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN:

  • Nursing Homes: Management of facilities for dependent elderly people offering compassionate and adapted care to seniors with loss of autonomy (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being)
  • Social Support: Providing assistance and resources to vulnerable individuals (SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities)
  • Sustainable Development: Contributing to projects that foster long-term growth and stability (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals)

Commitment to Sustainable Development

AAAS is proud to contribute to the global effort defined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Our projects focus on creating sustainable infrastructure, reducing poverty, and developing educational opportunities, while fostering social progress and encouraging international cooperation.
