ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT HUB
A structured approach for lasting impact
The Armenian Association for Social Assistance (AAAS) is committed to effectively responding to the needs of its beneficiaries through a results-based approach aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have developed a multi-year strategic framework, deployed in France and Armenia for the Economic and Social Development (ESD) Hub, which integrates humanitarian aid and development principles in accordance with international standards and recognized best practices.
This methodology provides us with a robust monitoring and evaluation system to measure the transformative impact of our interventions on targeted communities. Each intervention sector is subject to systematic monitoring through SMART indicators (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound), ensuring accountability and programmatic effectiveness.
This results-oriented approach allows us to meet our commitments to our funding partners and stakeholders, while ensuring the institutional and programmatic sustainability of our organization. Our interventions are part of a long-term development perspective, generating structural changes and sustainable solutions to the socio-economic challenges faced by the vulnerable populations we serve.

A strategic partnership in Armenia
All our actions in Armenia are implemented with our historic partner The Armenian Foundation for Sustainable Development (AFSD).
From humanitarian aid to sustainable development
Present in Armenia since 1988, AAAS initially deployed emergency humanitarian assistance programs in response to the multifaceted crises affecting the country: regional armed conflicts, economic blockade imposed by neighboring countries, geopolitical instability and humanitarian consequences of successive military confrontations.
Faced with the evolution of the socio-economic context and recognizing that structural challenges required a holistic approach beyond emergency aid, our organization operated a strategic transition towards long-term development.
This transformative vision materialized in 2004 with the creation of the Armenian Foundation for Sustainable Development, a non-profit entity under Armenian law whose mandate is structured around an ambitious objective: to contribute to building a resilient and inclusive Armenia, capable of overcoming external shocks and regional tensions, by tackling systemic inequalities and promoting sustainable human development.
A recognized multisectoral commitment
AAAS and AFSD focus their efforts on promoting and protecting the rights of the most vulnerable populations: women, migrants, refugees, war victims, children, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in Armenian society.
Their interventions are structured around four major strategic pillars:

Migration
- - Support for voluntary return of migrants wishing to return to their country of origin in dignified and secure conditions
- - Prevention actions and fight against illegal immigration

Empowerment
- - Vocational training, support for women's entrepreneurship and strengthening of economic capacities
- - Development of digital skills and technological inclusion of vulnerable women

Development
- - Creation of sustainable income-generating activities: development of decent employment opportunities to empower women and returning migrants
- - Strengthening of social protection through economic integration of women and returning migrants for successful and sustainable social integration

Francophonie
- - Cooperation with the French University in Armenia (UFAR) to support deserving students
- - Educational activities in French-speaking schools for the promotion of the French language and creation of French classrooms
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
AAAS and AFSD have carried out several hundred projects since 2004, benefiting from the support and partnership of prestigious institutions:
